Google introduced 6 and 6 Pro, the new members of the new Pixel family, in its online event today. The company announced that it has produced a special chip for the devices with the fastest and most powerful hardware that these devices have ever produced. It was stated that thanks to the new processor they named Tensor, devices are now better and more accessible in every sense, especially artificial intelligence.
Tensor processor and AI (artificial intelligence) support
With the release of the Pixel 6 series, the importance of artificial intelligence and its place in our lives, at least as much as devices, was emphasized. He said how it will be one step ahead of its competitors thanks to the Tensor processing unit (TPU) in the new models and this processor.
The company said that the TPU, which was designed together with Google Research, to bring the developments in the field of AI and machine learning to consumer electronics, is almost a milestone. For example, Google shared the information that the new processor will have the ASR (automatic speech recognition system) feature offered by the company, for both quick assistant queries and longer voice operations such as live captions or recording application.
This newly developed processor also brings motion mode, face detection and live translated text features that can convert texts to a different language as fast as you can type, to the new Pixel 6 family. Also, Google said that this chip has less power consumption than its predecessors. He stated that he could easily perform special tasks with his high capacity in thinking and learning.
Of course, the new processor is not only composed of the TPU unit and artificial intelligence. Along with the Pixel 6 event, details were shared about all the units of this new chip, including the main components such as CPU, GPU and modem. The product really comes with a special core combination that we have not encountered before, as said.
The dedicated TPU for AI consists of two high-power ARM Cortex X1 cores, two mid-range ARM Cortex A76 and four cores (estimated to be ARM Cortex 55) that enable the device to consume low power. In addition to a 20-core GPU, the device also has a special image processing unit that will help with unique photography.
It is not exactly known why Google uses A76 cores instead of the newly released ARM Cortex A78, which is both stronger and more efficient. Many people say that it is a move made to keep the prices of the phones affordable. However, it should be noted that it still offers 80 percent more CPU and 370 percent faster GPU performance than the Pixel 5 model, which uses a Snapdragon 765G processor.
We will see what these new processors offer compared to their competitors in the price range, thanks to the tests to be made in the coming days. What do you think about this subject? Don't forget to share your views with us in the comments!
