The AMP plugin that Google has been pushing to use by publishers for years is now coming to an end. The company will release a new update next week.
Google, which has made various algorithm updates that will affect websites since the past months, has improved the search results by launching the page experience tool. The company, which is currently towards the end of the update, surprisingly took action within AMP pages.
Google News will no longer display content as AMP
In recent years, Google has forced publishers to use AMP to give users a better experience. This plugin, which allows to quickly display almost all the news read on mobile, seems to be out of our lives soon.
In the past months, Google has removed the AMP icon displayed during search results. Now, the company has sent an e-mail to the publishers and stated that a new update is on the way. Here is the email from Google:
“As part of the [Page experience] update, the Google News app will improve support for web content in the coming weeks. In addition, non-AMP content from worldwide sites will no longer be displayed. You don't need to take any action to activate it."
The email sent by Google may be the best indicator of the end of AMP pages. Because in recent months, some sources have suggested that AMP pages will be removed, while Google has confirmed all these rumors with its updates.
According to the official statement made by the US company, the Google News application will now display a content without AMP. In other words, when users click on any news via Google News or Discover, they will be directed directly to the website. This update will be released with an update in the coming weeks.
