Google will not allow users of very old Android versions to sign in to their devices. While the announcement was made via e-mail to all users who are still actively using old Android versions, it was reported that "Signing in with your account in Google applications will no longer be supported". The date is September 27.
If you are still using an operating system before the Android 2.3.7 version, you will not be able to log in to these devices with a Google account as of September 27. The Android operating system versions that will end Google support are as follows:

Google has also announced that this change will only affect system and application level sign-ins, but not web browsers. In other words, in the above operating system versions, after September 27, it will not be possible to log in with a Google account in applications such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive.
