Google will continue to provide updates to Windows 7 users for six months longer than originally planned. The technology giant announced earlier this year that the web browser will only support the older version of the Windows operating system until July 15, 2021. It seems that the company's plans include support for Windows 7 at least until January 15, 2022. According to the company's statement, the web browser will continue to release updates for Windows 7 users until the first month of 2022.

In a statement on the subject, Google stated that businesses and IT workers had to face many difficulties this year due to reasons such as getting used to the home-working system and the changes in the working environment brought about by the new type of coronavirus epidemic. In its statement, the company said, "Planned IT projects may need to stay in the background because of more important projects." As can be understood from its statement, Google made its choice to listen to the feedback from corporate customers for this reason.

Although the Windows 7 operating system has been with computer users for over a decade, it is used by many organizations. According to Google's data, 22 percent of organizations using the Windows operating system have not yet switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Google hopes that by moving its last support date for Windows 7 to six months beyond the scheduled date,
 it will give corporate customers enough time to leave the old operating system and switch to a new one without worrying about security. Microsoft stopped providing security updates for the old operating system after January 14, 2020, but allowed companies seeking security support to pay by 2023. As a result, companies that want to get security updates from Microsoft now have to pay a certain amount.
