The Competition Authority of the Republic of Turkey , the recent Google 'to cut heavy penalties and sanctions had been applied. The institution, which launched an investigation into the gigantic technology company, asked for defense. By claiming verbal defense to the Competition Authority, Google claimed that it did not monopolize its dominant position in the industry.

The defense process was opened with the speech of the Competition Authority President Birol Küle . Whether Birol Küle violated the Competition Law on the grounds that it has complicated the activities of its competitors in the online shopping services market by abusing the dominance of Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd Sti, Google International LLC, Google LLC, Google Ireland Limited and Alphabet Inc in the general search market. He reminded that an investigation was launched into the investigation and gave the floor to the investigation committee.

The investigation was actually on Google's product snippets. As you know , when you did a search, Google sometimes showed you the products you could buy directly on the search page. In this case, the Competition Authority allegedly prevented shopping comparison sites from competing. 

The investigation representative said that Google should place the shopping units called "Shopping Unit" examined within the scope of the file in a reasonable place that will not disadvantage their competitors, and in case of failure to comply with these conditions, daily administrative fines should be applied.

The company representatives who were investigated stated that "Shopping Unit" is a mechanism that shows product advertising and stated that this is not a shopping comparison service area.

Google Competition Authority declared no intent in defense

Company representatives who stated that a high quality advertising space has been created with the said area, said that  Shopping Unit's product advertising provides more benefits to both users and advertisers.

The company representatives pointed out that the Shopping Unit provides convenience to users and advertisers, as it is located, "If this field is put under the page, it will cause confusion among users. If we put the Shopping Unit at the bottom of the page, organic searches are pushed to the bottom of the page. advertising, product returns to the ad instead of text ads. Shopping in this case Turkey will reduce the value of the Unit leads to revert to text ads. " said. 

At this point where the user and the advertiser were satisfied, the company representatives who defended which issue should be considered, argued that there was no intent and negligence.

The company representative stated that there is no place for administrative fines and that if the penalty is to be given, it should be given a minimum.
