Here are Safety Tips for Instagram Users
Since Instagram is the second most popular social network in the world, accounts here are often frequented by cybercriminals. Hacking accounts that are not well protected is an easy task for cybercriminals. Kaspersky experts make recommendations to increase your account security as your Instagram settings allow.

You may have received a notification on your smartphone saying, "We have detected a suspicious login attempt to your account from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil". Whether the login attempt came from where you live, from the other side of the world, from the type of phone you use, or from a device you've never heard of, cybercriminals are trying to panic you with such methods. The first thing you should do is not to panic.
Data leak and filling in credential fields

News about data leaks and breaches come up frequently. In such cases, even if Facebook and Instagram are not directly attacked, if another website is compromised and the captured data includes your account information, cybercriminals can also access your identity information. By using a list of e-mail usernames and passwords, cybercriminals can perform an attack to fill in credential fields with stolen account information, and use the stolen credentials to enter other sites. This is a very useful method because people use the same password for many accounts they have. So this is actually a very common mistake.

Phishing

If you're looking for the consequences of a phishing scam where your username and password fell into the hands of scammers, these are things that happen often in everyday life. Maybe you clicked on a link and entered credentials on a fake Facebook or Instagram login screen that looked pretty realistic. For example, Kaspresky experts recently uncovered a phishing attack that lured victims to fake login pages, threatening to block their Facebook accounts, citing copyright infringement.

Password theft

Malware can also steal people's credentials. For example, many Trojans also come with a built-in keylogger, a program that, as the name suggests, records keystrokes on the keyboard. If you've infected your device with malware that records keystrokes on the keyboard, it could mean that cybercriminals have every username and password you enter.

Sign in from another device

At a party, internet cafe, or hotel lobby, there's a good chance you've signed in to Facebook or Instagram using someone else's device and then not logged out. Or, for example, you might be giving someone else access to your account by not signing out of an account on a device before you sell it or give it away.

False alarm (Phishing)

Maybe your account has never been hacked. Cybercriminals are also more likely to forge notifications about suspicious login attempts. In fact, this is another variation of a phishing type. Instead of threatening to block your account, cybercriminals can send you a notification about a fake login attempt with a link that will redirect you to a phishing site that looks like a real login page. Here's what criminals hope for; panicked victims click on the fake site and enter their credentials there.

Kaspersky experts recommend the following to protect your Instagram account from attackers:

• Choose a strong, long and unique password. Kaspersky Password Manager can help you keep all your passwords safe.

• Do not click on suspicious links.

• Always check the address bar for the URL of the web page. If it says something like 1stogram.com or instagram.security-settings.com instead of Instagram.com, exit right away and don't enter any personal information.

• Install the Instagram app from official stores such as Google Play for Android and App Store for iOS.

• Never provide your account login information for verification through third party services and apps.

• Enable two-step verification on both your Instagram and email account.
