Upstream's Secure-D platform revealed that Transsion Tecno W3 smartphones in 14 countries, including Ethiopia, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa, registered to some subscription services without the consent of the users.
More than 200 thousand Transsion Tecno W3 models have so far made a total of 19.2 million suspicious transactions without users' permission. As a result of the examination, a preinstalled virus named Triada was detected in Tecno W2 devices manufactured by Transsion. Triada, which gains administrative authority on the device, is a type of virus that downloads a large number of malware to the device.
In the study by Secure-D, the Triada software, which came preloaded after the Tecno W2 device was connected to the Internet, downloaded a trojan named xHelper. It is almost impossible to delete the xHelper virus that has taken control of the device. Creating a backdoor in the device, xHelper downloads a large number of viruses to the infected device.
