Microsoft is stealing roles from the App Store with Windows 11

HomepageArticlesMicrosoft is stealing roles from the App Store...

Developers will not have to pay a commission to Microsoft during in-app sales in Windows 11.

Microsoft is preparing to play a role from the App Store with its new operating system, Windows 11. Unlike the App Store, which has been on the agenda with its commission rates for a long time, Windows allows developers to use its own payment system. Thus, developers will not have to pay a commission to Microsoft during sales within the application.

Microsoft Product General Manager Panos Panay conveyed this new development at the event where Windows 11 was introduced:

"If you bring your own trading engine, you keep 100 percent of your revenue. We take 0 percent."

The Windows 11 update will be released free of charge to all Windows users during the US holiday season.

Microsoft's position in the App Store vs Epic Games debate
Last August, we told you that Fortnite, which added a direct payment option to the game in the summer of last year, was removed from both the App Store and Google Play. Upon this move by Epic Games, Apple not only removed the Fortnite game from the App Store, but also announced on August 28 that it would close all developer accounts of Epic Games and remove the company from iOS and Mac development tools.

While Epic Games was holding an anti-Apple #FreeFortnite tournament, Microsoft was heavily involved in the Apple-Epic Games war and sided with Epic Games. Microsoft previously sent a letter to the court on behalf of Epic Games. However, a Microsoft employee came forward as an expert witness during the trial. Although the discussions for both parties in the ongoing case are over; It is not yet known when the judge will make a decision.

In order to better understand Microsoft's approach to Windows 11, it would be useful to examine all the details of the endless commission fight in the App Store and the approach of news publishers in this process.

Highlights of Windows 11
With the Windows 11 update, many design innovations are also coming up.

While the Start menu and taskbar icons are positioned at the bottom - middle of the screen, we see that the corners of the windows have rounded lines. Likewise, the transparency feature for windows and other elements draws attention. There are also new themes such as Dark and Light mode.

It should be noted that the design of the login screen has been completely changed. In addition, Windows Hello and other login methods have been accelerated. Widgets, which were relatively small in Windows 7 within the scope of design innovations, found their place in Windows 11 with a larger appearance.

The most popular innovation of Windows 11 may be reducing power consumption and increasing the battery life of devices. Reducing the size of updates by 45 percent and thus accelerating the update installation process are among the popular features.

Microsoft Teams has been fully integrated into Windows 11, while touch controls and pen support have been enhanced. Finally, with Amazon App Store support, Android applications took their place in the Windows Store.
