While hundreds of people have lost their lives due to the coronavirus epidemic in Wuhan, China, many cities in the country have been quarantined. In addition, many companies operating in China such as Tesla, Huawei, Xiaomi and Apple had to take various measures due to the virus.
The coronavirus outbreak also jeopardized the Mobile World Congress, the world's largest mobile industry fair, to be held in Barcelona on February 24-27. Many tech companies have announced that they will not participate in the event because of the outbreak in question.
LG, Ericsson, Nvidia, Amazon, Sony, NTT announced that they will not attend the Mobile World Congress due to Docomo, Gigaset, Umidigi, Intel, Vivo, Facebook and Cisco coronavirus .
The organizer company of the event, the World GSM Association (GSMA), said that the event would not be canceled and security measures would be increased at first, but the fact that many companies gave up joining caused the urgent meeting of GSMA.
The World GSM Association will decide at Friday's meeting whether the Mobile World Congress, which is at risk by the cancellations of major technology companies, will be held.
Barcelona, which has hosted more than 100 thousand professional attendees from about 200 countries coming to the Mobile World Congress since 2006, has generated more than 450 million euros in economic income due to this event.
However, due to the decision of some big companies not to join MWC, statements are made that the cancellations have started in the hotels and the representatives of the tourism sector in the city are concerned about this.
