Netflix, the world's most used online streaming service, has provided news that will delight Android users. Netflix has announced that they are taking steps to improve streaming quality on Android devices, and that the new arrangement has been introduced.
With the official statement made by Netflix, it was stated that the AV1 codec infrastructure was switched to Android devices starting today . Thanks to the new infrastructure, it was underlined that those who watch the content via the Android mobile application will provide various advantages. After AV1, Netflix Android users reported that they will get better performance and easily access the content due to videos compressed by 20 percent better.
Reminding that the AV1 infrastructure is royalty-free, Netflix reminded that they will only pay once to use the new system. This reminder, on the other hand, started to suggest whether to make a price update.
Netflix, which aims to bring the change that is valid only for the Android application to all platforms for now, stated that it will start the change after the first attempts. In other words, AV1 infrastructure can be used in other platforms, especially iOS.
However, the company decided to prioritize mobile platforms as it is where the compression efficiency of AV1 fits better. Note that not all Netflix content can be streamed using AV1, but you can enable it by turning on "Save Data". This way, all compatible titles will be broadcast using the AV1 codec, thereby reducing your cellular data usage.
To access AV1 content, you first need to sign in on your Android devices with your Netflix subscription. Then you should download the content you want to watch. Thus, the downloaded content will be saved to your storage as AV1. It will take up less space and offer better image quality.
