Google, which has released a new update for the Chrome browser's Android application, has taken the widget designs in the iOS operating system out of the iPhone. By adapting to the toolkit feature that entered our lives with iOS 14 introduced earlier this year, Google, which brought widget support to all the applications it contains, made the same move for Chrome.
Google, which has not renewed the mobile version of the browser specially developed for Android devices for a long time, copied widgets similar to iOS 14 with the update it launched this week.
Can be tested with the Chrome Canary app
The widget feature has been in the Android operating system for years. However, it is the target of criticism that it is not sufficient in terms of both design and functionality. Google, which started to focus on this issue with Android 12, which it introduced in May, adds widget support to its own applications in order to encourage developers. Chrome browser, which is one of the most concrete examples of this, attracted attention with its iOS 14-like widgets.
The new widgets that are currently available in the Chrome Canary application are placed on the home screen of the Android smartphone. The ability of the tool, which has rounded corners and small functional tiles, is limited for now. While the browser can open a hidden tab in the iOS application, make voice calls and even run the dinosaur game; Unfortunately, this is not possible in the Android app. The browser can only detect the URLs that the user writes and log in to the relevant site.
