When foldable smartphones first entered the industry, question marks arose. These devices, which had a hinged structure, were criticized for being
easily breakable. One of the important handicaps of foldable phones was the price issue. It was not well received that it came at hard-to-buy prices
compared to normal smartphones.
The report published by Display Supply Chain Consultants revealed that consumers have thrown this thought out of their minds over time. According
to the news of Ross Young from DSCC, in the third quarter of 2021, the market share of foldable smartphones increased by 215% quarter-on-quarter
and 480 percent year on year.
Most popular foldable phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3
According to the foldable smartphone shipment report covering the third quarter of 2021, it turned out that the most popular device is the
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. This product, which had a 60 percent market share, was followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with a 23 percent market share.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G model, which was introduced last year, became the third best-selling foldable phone with a 7% market share.
It is followed by Huawei Mate X2 and X2 4G with a market share of 2 percent; Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 also placed in the sixth place of the list.
In the light of these data, DSCC determined that the South Korean company dominated 93 percent of the foldable smartphone market in the third
quarter of 2021. Thus, Samsung revealed that it dominates the market by a wide margin.
The increase in foldable smartphone shipments is expected to continue. According to DSCC, in the fourth quarter data of 2021, shipments will increase
by 47 percent quarter-on-quarter, by more than 450 percent year on year, and reach 3.8 million units.
It is said that Samsung will increase its market share to 95 percent in the fourth quarter; The Z Flip 3 is estimated to stay at 58 percent. It is also
shared that the Z Fold 3 that comes after it will increase to 36 percent and the Mate X2 4G will reach 4 percent.
