Social media platform TikTok has closed more than 7 million accounts thought to belong to users under the age of 13.
China-based social media platform TikTok has published the "Community Rules Implementation Report", in which data on shares and accounts removed for rule violations are shared.
In the report, it was stated that 7.3 million accounts were closed on the grounds that they belonged to persons under 13 years old.
Cormac Keenan, Head of TikTok's Trust and Security Unit, stated that accounts thought to belong to users under the age of 13 were closed "to give visibility to their actions to protect children".
The report noted that closed accounts accounted for less than 1 percent of total user accounts.
APPROXIMATELY 62 MILLION VIDEOS REMOVED
In addition, the report stated that approximately 62 million videos and approximately 2 million ads were removed for violation of rules.
TikTok allows users aged 13 and over to use the platform.
In Italy, the government ordered TikTok to "block users whose age cannot be verified", following allegations that a 10-year-old girl died after entering the TikTok application.
