Internet Exchange Point (IDN), used in Turkey until this time and a structure indicated that up to 230 worldwide. The name of the Internet Exchange Point comes from the “Internet Exchanger” , which means the exchange point of the internet traffic . We can think of this point of change as an area of change that will provide relief in internet traffic. Nowadays; Considering that technologies like 5G are talked about, IDN should be the subject that needs to be emphasized.
IDN has been established in our country 2 times before, but; it was not successful by not maintaining its continuity. In recent days; A total of 3 independent IDN structures are planned to be created. So where will these structures be found?
1 of them is Ankara and 2 of them are; Istanbul.
How can we explain the IDN structure in a different way?
To summarize the IDN structure more easily , let's take the "Cyber Silk Road" . In a highway that is tried to be driven at high speeds where millions of vehicles pass, it will be necessary to have vehicles to pass through certain areas, and this will increase the speed and speed of the vehicle. If all the vehicles on the road go quickly to a single area and from there they are directed directly to the final area where they have to go, this will be a pretty good process. They will provide a fast transfer without stopping in any area while going to both the distribution point and the destination point.
As you can see in the picture above, you can think that every athlete has internet traffic. Each service provider is a material and temporal obstacle in the process before the athletes. With the disappearance of obstacles, they will find their ultimate goals directly. In short; Internet Exchange Point to be said that the formation of a more secure Internet infrastructure in Turkey.
With the IDN, the delay time is reduced to a minimum level and it is predicted to decrease. In everyday life, all we need, from the order we place on the internet and from the e-mail we send, speed is a very important criterion for service quality. With these exchange points, they will now go a quick way as the data goes from one place to another. In short, we will be able to access the sites we use faster.
It can be stated that cyber attacks such as Internet Exchange Points and DDos can be prevented and stopped during these periods when many institutions and countries are exposed to attacks. DDos attacks occur when there is more demand for a bandwidth than the bandwidth can handle. IDN has a structure that can prevent such attacks. DDos attacks prevent unnecessary access of real users to service providers by creating unnecessary density in traffic that operates cumbersome. With IDN, since there will be no obligation to reach service providers, traffic will not occur in service providers and users will not feel these attacks in case of attacks.
The biggest benefit of this structure seems to reduce costs. In the current conditions, it is quite economical that the request provided by a user on the internet, the process that takes place with the response received by many service providers by navigating their networks, and with this structure, the network will be realized without the need to navigate in any way. The process will be completed with low cost and easier access without losing the traffic unnecessarily within the incoming request bandwidth.
