What's the Difference Between eMMC and SSD?

HomepageArticlesWhat's the Difference Between eMMC and SSD?

Hard disk drive - The use of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is quite common. But those who own the new computer prefer solid state drives (SSD) for better performance . Apart from these two drives, there is also an electronic multimedia card - Embedded Multimedia Card (eMMC) . What is eMMC and why is it starting to appear on laptops instead of SSDs and HDDs? What is the difference of eMMC between SSD and HDD ?

What is SSD?

Solid state drive  Solid State Drive (SSD) is a fully electronic data storage component. The most important feature of SSDs is the lack of moving parts. More technically speaking, solid state means electronics that use semiconductors. No moving parts means less wear and tear since there is no friction. Reading and writing data will be faster since there are no moving parts.

What is EMMC?

Many people know eMMC as solid state drive (SSD). It has no moving parts like HDD and is pretty fast. EMMC and SD cards are manufactured to the same basic standard and work on the same principles. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you probably have a device with eMMC inside.

So what's the difference between SSD and eMMC?

SSDs can be easily removed and replaced. However, eMMC is usually soldered to the device. Therefore, you cannot remove it and change it. If you want to increase the eMMC storage memory, you have to change your device. The largest eMMC capacity is only 128 GB. eMMC is a storage area used in smartphones, tablets and notebooks recently . The largest SSD available is 60 TB. However, both SSD and eMMC capacity will grow day by day. In capacity comparison, SSDs always seem to be one step ahead.

There are several chips inside the SSD drive that look like SD cards. There is only one chip in the eMMC. For this reason, SSDs have a longer life than eMMCs.

An eMMC laptop is much cheaper than an SSD laptop. SSDs are more expensive.

Which is better? SSD or eMMC?

This choice is entirely up to you. EMMC is a good idea if you don't need a lot of storage and want to use your computer to take advantage of services such as cloud storage on the Internet. In short, eMMC storage is a good choice for notebooks for things like surfing the Internet.

If you need a laptop with large, reliable, local storage and fast data access, the SSD laptop will be the best. Of course, the SSD preference will be more costly. You get high performance on SSD computer. If you are trying to play games and use programs that require high performance, of course, your choice should be SSD supported computers.
