Zoom gains end-to-end encryption. Here are all the details about the feature that will come to Zoom, one of the most popular video calling applications in the world!

Zoom announced that after heavy complaints about privacy it received in June, the video conferencing application will be brought to a feature that is also included in WhatsApp Messenger. Zoom, a video conferencing application that has achieved great success with the new type of coronavirus, gains end-to-end encryption . So, when exactly will the new feature announced to be introduced to the video call application come? Here are all the details about the feature that will come to the video chat application !

Zoom Takes End-to-End Encryption

The meetings held at Zoom were previously protected with the AES 256-bit encryption system. During the video call, all of the text, voice and video chats were securely hidden from the surveillance of third parties, but it was possible for the hackers to bypass this security layer in order to follow the conversations that people using the service attended.

In May, the company purchased the service called Keybase.io (an end-to-end encrypted chat and cloud storage system used to keep the identity of internet users private) to develop an end-to-end encryption system. With this step, the company aims to bring a system that will keep internet users much safer during the chat in the video conferencing application compared to the old encryption system.

Zoom, one of the world's most popular video calling applications, stated that the end-to-end encryption option would not be open by default. According to the statement made by Zoom, in order to use this feature, it will need to be activated by the founder of the meeting or authorized persons in the meeting. In addition, the feature will have to be opened by the people who will attend the meeting. You will get a green icon in the upper left corner of an end-to-end encrypted meeting.

Free users will first need to complete two-factor authentication using the code sent to their phone via SMS to use this feature. The video call application will add an additional layer of security with end-to-end encryption, while also imposing some restrictions on users. Zoom will limit the number of participants with its end-to-end encryption system.

End-to-end unencrypted business-related meetings will have a capacity of 1000 participants, while end-to-end encrypted business-related meetings will be limited to 200. Zoom said the feature will be in beta for 30 days to get feedback on the feature from internet users. The company aims to implement the second phase of end-to-end encryption out of four planned phases to offer better privacy.
