What is a Domain Name?

1. WHAT IS DOMAIN NAME?
A domain name is the name and address of websites on the internet. More memorable domain names are used because IP addresses that allow computers to recognize each other are difficult to remember.

2. WHAT IS DOMAIN NAME SYSTEM?
Computers need each other's IP addresses to communicate with each other. In order for a user to communicate with other computers with his own computer, he will need to know the IP addresses of the machines he will communicate with. Since it is difficult to remember the numerical IP address values of all computers to be contacted, the DNS (Domain Name System) protocol, which is called the domain name system, has emerged. Thanks to this protocol, DNS servers can communicate with each other, and port 53 is used by the DNS protocol by default.

3. HOW DOES DNS WORK?
DNS starts working when users send a request to the website domain name. The domain names used to reach the websites and the IP addresses represented by these domain names are kept on servers called DNS Servers. The browser connects to the DNS server and the IP address represented by the domain name is found and a request is sent to this address.
